www.mapleweekend.com
Many Maple producers host an open house at their farms and sugar shacks each year. This state-wide event, which began in WNY in 1995 is a great opportunity to get outside with the whole family, visit some of our most unique farms, and experience one of our most important products. Maple Syrup is used in a wide variety of ways from pancakes to barbecue sauce and you can find these products, especially containers of golden goodness at most of these farms. We are proud to support the 16th Annual Maple Weekends!

The Arcade Center Farms Sugar Shack and Pancake House is one of the most unique and historic farms in WNY.  Listed on the NYS and National Register of Historic places, it was one of the first farms built in the area. It is located just outside of Arcade on Route 98, 1 mile to the north.  Owned and operated by Ray and Sandy Milks since 1984, Arcade Center Farms is a family operation that brings visitors true hospitality and a journey back in time. It is open year round and boasts some of the best produce and local and farm made goods to be found anywhere in WNY.

The sugar shack is right next to the pancake house. The Pancake house includes a delightful gift shop that Sandy keeps stocked with interesting and unique items including produce,(apples, potatoes and other produce in season)  canned goods such as organic butters, sauces, and salsas, and of course Maple Syrup and honey.  Ray keeps the sugar Shack open as soon as the sap starts running.   Visitors are invited inside so that they can see how an old fashioned wood fired evaporator works.  It is an incredible operation to see, and to smell, and there is the freshly made maple syrup that is astonishingly delicious. . The Pancake house is open weekends from February at least through April. The pancakes are really wonderful, all you can eat, and served with real maple syrup, real butter, and a real friendly atmosphere.  You can also get some good country ham, egg, and great sausages with your pancakes.

There is something comforting to remember when you hear the old adage “families that work together stay together”. The Wright Family which owns and operates the Wright Family Farm and Maple Sugar House in Franklinville N.Y. is a good example. This five generation family of maple syrup producers can say,  "yes we can work together".
It all began back in 1840 when great, great grandfather Charles Wright started the family farm and started making dreams come true! Since then, five generations of Wrights have come along to make maple syrup.

In 1978 Leon E. Wright Sr. was inducted into the American Maple Museum Hall of Fame" in Croghan, New York.

Today his grandsons are working the 500 acres of prime sugar bush which includes 7,200 taps in buckets and plastic tubing producing an average of 1500 gallons of syrup each year.
Besides tree lot management, the family runs a dairy farm. Brothers Bob and Rick Wright and their wives and children work both on and off the farm to keep that family dream alive and well!   Rick runs the family dairy, while Bob works outside of the dairy farm until it is that time of the year to make that special syrup that the Wright family is known for!   He also runs the internet sales department.   Bob says that family and friends spend long hours and many supper times at the sugar house! Joan Wright runs the family craft sales and is raising the next generation of maple syrup producers on the farm!   Alice Wright still is washing the jugs, labeling the bottles and working in sales.  Matt, 11, likes to show how to tap his trees and talk about just how he and dad make the delicious syrup! These boys love the woods, love the maple business. Maybe there will soon be the 6th generation running this farm.

They are an inspiring and dedicated family and truly one of WNY treasures. Make sure to visit them if you get to Franklinville this maple season!
